The Germans are out to get General Montgomery, so plans are laid to get him a double. But statistician Henry Crun says they'll need more than one.
An actor by the name of M. E. Clifton James really was recruited to impersonate Montgomery and confuse the Germans; he later wrote a book about it called I Was Monty's Double. A movie based on the book, starring John Mills (but not Richard Attenborough), was released in October 1958.
