The Booted Gorilla
Seagoon is recruited by Grytpype and Moriarty to take the place of Bloodnok, who is in jail for a jewel roberry. They secretly mean to take the loot for themselves, but further problems and double-crosses await.
The start of the story resembles a scam called the "Spanish prisoner". In the traditional form, the mark is told that a person has been imprisoned in Spain and for various reasons cannot retrieve a large fortune themselves, but the mark can receive a cut if they provide the funds necessary to collect the fortune. Naturally, further complications occur and the mark has to keep providing more money. (The ancestor of today's Nigerian 419 scams.)
